HISTORIC photographs of a former railway works have been donated to a railway preservation group.
The photographs of North Road Railway Works, in Darlington, were handed to the North-East Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) yesterday. They were previously on display at Morrisons cafe, at Morton Palms, Darlington.
NELPG director Fred Ramshaw thanked the company, and said: “We own locomotives built on site at the North Road Works and aim to restore and run them on railways around the country.
“As a local group who restore and maintain steam engines, the historical photos are important in maintaining the ethos of the North Eastern Railway.”
The photographs show inside the works and feature machinery and locomotives that were originally built there.
NELPG plans to put the photographs on show next month in the Hopetown Works, in Hopetown Lane.
