AFTER Memories' recent visit to Crook Local History Society, Tony Callan asked whether The Northern Echo's photo-archive might contain a picture of the town's Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady and St Cuthbert before the tower was added.
The church was completed in 1854, and work on the tower lasted from 1895 to 1897 – so someone with an early camera might have recorded the church pre-tower.
Sadly, the Echo's archive doesn't shed any light on the tower, but it does possess a fine array of pictures of old Crook.
If any of them trigger any memories, or if you have any information about them, please email chris.lloyd@nne.co.uk, and if you have a picture of the church in its pre-tower days, we'd love to hear from you.
