THE Friends of St Cuthbert's Church in Darlington are holding a coffee morning in Hurworth on Thursday, March 17, from 10.30am until noon, and everyone is welcome. The Friends do a great job raising money to restore Darlington's beautiful old lady. They've recently finished work on the early 15th Century misericords – the little wooden seats that priests could discreetly rest on, one of which shows an extraordinary naked, bearded fellow snoozing in his boots.
Their next project may be to help with the restoration of the church's stained glass windows.
The coffee morning is being held at 2, West End, Hurworth – at the Spar shop end of the village, near the cafe in the Methodist church.
Feel free to drop in for a beverage and a biscuit, and while you are there, have a look around the attractive village. Friends chairman Milly Stoney has kindly sent in these Edwardian postcards of how things used to be in Hurworth, and we've added a few pictures from The Northern Echo's archive.
