VINTAGE

While reading the Echo

I just had to pause

When I saw the article

About the bus to Hawes.

Chris speaks nostalgically

About his old BU

But I had to drive 'em

I have a different view.

In my debt of gratitude

I have to thank Paul Sykes

Who shipped them off to China

And turned them into bikes.

But if to drive a vintage bus

Is your life-long wish

You'll either have to buy one

Or come to work at Bish.

Derek Lane, Newton Aycliffe

BROKEN FENCE

With a sad heart the farmer looked over his fields,

In his hand were a saw, hammer and nails,

For vandals had destroyed his peaceful countryside,

By breaking his wooden fences and rails.

His animals huddled together in a corner of a field

Confused and shivering with fright,

The farmer knew he had to work hard that day

To keep his cattle safe and secure at night.

Yet mankind today often breaks family fences,

And relationships go far astray.

These kind of fences won't heal with hammer and nails,

But with love and forgiveness all the way.

GRANNY AND ME

We sat at home all day

watching DVDs

It was too cold outside, frost

on all the trees.

We ate cheese on

toast and drank cups of tea.

It was all nice and cosy,

just Granny and me.

Clark Warburton, Newton Aycliffe

SNOWFLAKE

Snowflakes flying to the ground

Seem to do a dance when they fly around

It is a waltz, no it's the palais glide

As the flakes fly from side to side.

I feel so pleased to see such magic

When the news is always so tragic.

Elsie Pescod,

Ovingham, Northumberland

KEEP THE FAITH

Jesus says, Keep your faith,

Never let it go.

Trust me in the trials

And your faith will grow.

For when I come back again

This will please me most,

That in the turmoils and the pain

Your faith was never lost.

Learn to look above

When life is hard and tough,

And you will find for sure

Faith in me will be enough.'

Elizabeth Tomlinson,

Richmond

MY TINY SPIDER

My tiny spider is black like the sky

On a dark night.

Silent like the turning earth

In a space of planets.

Fast like lightning,

In a strong storm.

Small like sneaky mice

That creep around your house.

My tiny spider creeps around the garden,

Like a tiny herd of bulls.

He hurries along the floor,

Like a jumping cheetah.

He creeps along the web he made,

Glittering in the sun.

He guards his eggs,

Like a soldier guarding his country.

CARAVANING AT KESWICK

I love to go caravanning under the midnight skies,

I like to go to Keswick, it is the best,

I see extraordinary sights,

I think caravanning is better than the rest

From the camp site you can see Skiddaw,

Above Bassenthwaite Lake two ospreys fly.

They snatch a fish from the surface of the lake

To feed their chicks in the next up high.

There are lots of things to do,

Crazy golf is such fun.

There is fishing too,

By the end of your trip there will be still things left undone.

I have to go for now,

I wish we could stay,

But I know I'll be back soon,

Come what may.

Lee Saiger, age 11,

Cassop, Co Durham SPRING IS

Spring is a wonderful thing.

It's when the birds start to sing.

When spring comes the whole world changes.

When spring comes the environment re-arranges.

In spring hibernation dies down,

No one wears a frown.

A new season starts when

another one ends.

Everyone makes friends.

It's time for rain to rest

When the birds start to

nest.

I like to watch them eat from feeders

To tell all the readers.

Apple blossom grows on the trees

To attract the bees

They make me spendidly pleased

Easter comes. It's time to cheer.

For Easter eggs, "Oh dear!"

When Spring comes there is a breeze.

It takes my hat without saying please.

ALL ABOUT HARVEYNIX

His name is Harveynix,

And he always licks.

He has a little brown fur,

He does a little purr.

He has a brown little nose,

And he does a little pose.

He has a little tash,

And he runs like a flash.

He is really cute,

He ate a little newt.

He is a gorgeous dog,

He curls up like a hedgehog.

He is like a noddle,

But he is a poodle.

Willington, Co Durham
