WHEN THE SNOWDROPS CAME
I knew I loved you, when the
snowdrops came,
I told you how happy I was, when the
crocus appeared,
The daffodils were delightful, tinged
with red and gold,
I told you of my joy, when the tulips
stood so bold.
When we saw the bluebells deep in
the gloomy wood,
I told you I would be your wife, and
life would be so good.
I was so proud to wear my diamond
ring,
As we sauntered through that
wonderful spring.
You gave me a jasmine plant, pure
white flowers stayed for weeks,
Then the pain appeared; dark
shadows on your cheeks.
We picked wild roses and big dog
daisies,
Then the pain got worse, I was no
good as a nurse.
The rose petals fell in the summer
rain,
And you went away when September
came.
I didn’t get a wreath or a lovely floral
display,
I put primulas on your grave that day.
Now the snowdrops are here again,
and sometimes,
Just sometimes, I can feel the pain..

SUCH AS DALE FARM
Hey travellers, don’t you understand
Your neighbours are on legal land
Their community a happy lot
Where yours is not
Identical you think you are
But be aware
There is a thin dividing line
Contentedness for you a crime
There is logic in the law
That shows the door
Whole plotted village can carry on
Your homes are gone
Little people living lives
Sons and daughters, husbands, wives
So simple do not understand
They want the land
Unimportant indeed we are
Who simply wish to live and care
As if all rights are heaven-sent
The power of right is government
You have to happily go you see
We do not count. poor you and me
A legal deal
Is struck with no appeal
Get out, they say, and be estranged
Before the law on green land’s
changed
The powers that be
Soon will be free
To sign away
Our sunny day
Business will buy up all such land
It all is profit, understand
Their plot is simply pre-arranged.
So, laws can change
