What was your first car?

My first car was a Marcos. It was pink! I went on from the Marcos to a Shelby Cobra GT500, ouch, then a Jensen Interceptor - I loved cars.

I wouldn't take a lift in a pink car now but then you had to be there.

It had a Sony TV, a record player in the glove compartment All the switches were in the door, I ordered it from Hexagon, Muswell Hill and bought it on HP.

I still love the shape of it. Someone recently found it and they have rebuilt it in pink - it had to be!

The Northern Echo:

How many times did it take to pass your test?

I passed my test first time. It's a long story – a need to know basis!

My mother lent me her Hillman Imp and the person who taught my mother taught me.

That day was some day – that feeling, something else.

Who would be your fantasy passenger and where would you go?

A fantasy passenger? Well as I do so much driving now because it takes a lot of the time to get to gigs - as much as 14 hours in a three-day weekend – I wouldn't want to go anywhere. I’d rather stay at home, play tennis, watch football and be with my family.

What is your dream car?

I have dreamed of owning an Aston Martin for a long time – but it was just a dream.

It would have to be a second car. I would have to not think about the price and I would have to be doing a lot better than I am! Onwards.

How would you describe your driving style?

I drive like the old man I am happy to be going forward.

Tell one driving anecdote?

I have a lot of anecdotes from my driving past and none that can be Shared in print!

What are you listening to?

The Northern Echo: Paul Weller

The fabulous Paul Weller Saturns Pattern. There's no why not when it comes to what's right and what's not when it comes to Paul Weller.

What are you driving now?

I drive a three-seater Ford Focus – I took the seat out to lay guitars out flat. It's perfect for what I do and who I am.
