Letters
Teachers
FROM the tone of CT Riley's letters
I assume he had a bad experience at
school which has coloured his view
of all teachers.
I admit that not all teachers are
perfect, but most I have known
never ignored bullying and certainly
would not countenance racial abuse.
All schools must now have policies
in place to counteract any bullying.
As for our influence upon pupils'
values, I always tried to instil what I
thought were good values, but have
been told on several occasions that I
knew nothing of the pupils' world. I
lived in my middle-class area, safe
from the pressures that caused them
to be as they were.
On one occasion I was told by a
pupil that his father said he was to
take no notice of stuck-up middleclass
b******s like me. The pupil was
a bully and ended up in prison, but
this was due to the fact that his
parents refused to believe he could
do any wrong until it was too late.
So, unless Mr Riley can produce
hard factual evidence to prove me
wrong, I will still maintain that
parents are responsible for their
children's attitudes.
