Letters
Gordon Brown
PLEASE can we have an end to the
often ill-informed attacks on our
Prime Minister made by
contributors to Hear All Sides?
It is frequently asserted that he is
"unelected". In this country we elect
MPs not prime ministers. When
Lloyd George became prime
minister in 1916 there was no
general election. Since then
Churchill, Macmillan, Callaghan
and Major, to name a few, have all
taken office without a general
election.
Correspondents have described
him as arrogant, boring and lacking
in common sense, without any
evidence to back these claims. He
was even accused of preventing the
elderly from travelling on buses at
times convenient to them. I think
the writer meant that the elderly
have to pay if they travel at peak
times, not that they are barred from
buses.
I believe Gordon Brown to be a
man of great integrity and honesty
who seeks greater justice for all. I
was present when he, not Tony
Blair, David Cameron or Nick Clegg,
was honoured by Newcastle
University for his support of the
Make Poverty History campaign.
He may lack the flamboyance of
his predecessor and current rivals,
but he outshines them in his
intellect and his compassion.
Anne Farrow, East Rainton,
Houghton-le-Spring.
IT must be awful for our great
leader Gordon Brown, the very
thought of being Labour's most
short-lived prime minister in
history. No wonder he did not call a
general election when Tony Blair
left. There is one solution for poor
old Gordon, go back to Scotland and
become PM in your country of birth.
Stephen Beaton, Darlington.

Ms Farrow
A simply staggering contribution that flies in the face of popular public opinion and the views of many Labour back benchers. Please be assured that HAS contributors will continue to express their frustration and distrust of this man until he is dragged screaming out of number 10 in May 2010.

Ms Farrow
the fact that this country is united in their frustration at an arrogant, power hungry, man is something to be celebrated not supressed.
The fact that we have had previous "unelected" Prime Minsters does not make it anymore right, and is no defence.
I have always opposed Gordon Brown as an incompetent Chancellor that took credit for things he played no part in.
I think it is only fair that he should accept the justified criticism that he is refusing to take responsibility for anything that happened in the past 11 years.
It is not his character that most people object to, it is his ability, or lack of it.
David
As you may know, i condem civil disobiewdence at any opportunity, however, the prospect of Mr Brown being dragged from number 10 is a comforting thought.

I've never read so much rubbish as is in Anne Farrow's letter, Brown is the biggest no-nothing that has been around for a long time and he walked into the position of PM because New Labour could'nt take the chance of open warfare if he did'nt get the job and his supposed fight on poverty is a myth, I'm a pensioner who has seen the value of his state pension go down year after year while council tax has bounded ahead, anyone who thinks Brown is being treated harshly should try being a pensioner under him for a while.

Peter
You as a pensioner have probably suffered more than most as a result of this man's incompetence. Sadly a whole generation of new pensioners are going to find themselves scuppered as a result of his deceitful attack on pension credits in 1997. I can see the day when this grey army will rise up and give him and his party a good pasting. He and they deserve it. I sincerely hope that the incoming Tory Government does something special for old folks. I'd especially like free travel because so many of them are trapped at home due to ridiculous bus and train fares.
Incidentally I've got 2 years before I hit the traditional retirement age!!
