THE Queen appeared to be enjoying the jubilee fun in London along with tens of thousands of people.

Not so the good folk of Shildon.

Churches Together organised an event in the park on Sunday but there was nothing else. Only the Morrison’s supermarket had a bouncy castle.

Zeeta Jackson, Shildon.

EVER since 1997, when the Labour Government tried through manipulation of the people to usurp the monarchy in the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana, the popularity of royal family and the Queen, in particular, has soared.

The diamond jubilee has proved that beyond doubt. The Queen’s reign may be described in three words: dedication, service and commitment.

The BBC’s coverage of the events may also be described in three words: incompetent, banal and trite.

It rolled out a string of minor celebrities to host events and made several basic mistakes proving that, unlike the Queen, it had failed to carry out sufficient research.

For future reference may I remind the BBC of the following: the Queen is Her Majesty and subordinate members of the royals are His or Her Royal Highnesses.

Terry Wogan is not Sir Terry Wogan – he is a foreign national with an honorary KBE. That also applies to that other product of the Irish Republic, Bob Geldof.

Our licence fee has never been so misused by the gathering of second rate, ill-researched clowns that the BBC put forward as presenters over the jubilee weekend of what should have been respectful homage to the sovereign.
