RALPH MUSGRAVE tells us that there are 1,500 mosques in Britain (HAS, Apr 25). I hardly think this amounts to proof of the “Islamification” of Europe.

There are also 409 synagogues and about 200 gurdwaras in Britain and 47,000 Christian churches.

Fortunately, Britain welcomes people of many faiths, and it is right that they should have their places of worship. We rightly criticise Saudi Arabia for prohibiting the open practice of Christianity.

We would not have a leg to stand on if we practised similar repression towards Muslims in Britain.

It is true that there have been objections to the proposed Millfield mosque in Sunderland, but most objectors are concerned about noise and parking problems etc., and these are concerns which must be addressed.

It is an entirely different matter when racist/Islamophobic groups like the BNP and the EDL jump on the bandwagon, and complain that the building of any mosque is evidence of “Islamification”, and must be resisted.
