Spennymoor jobs concern

I AGREE with CT Riley’s letter regarding the current job situation in Spennymoor (HAS, Feb 18). Previous governments just sat back and let all of our jobs go abroad.

Like Mr Riley, I have called for the town’s old Electrolux site to be retained for industrial use. We need extra manufacturing jobs, to enable local people to buy the many homes that are being built in Spennymoor.

I also agree that the Spennymoor shopping precinct, Festival Walk, is in decline.

However, I do consider that Spennymoor has improved considerably over the years, with shop front grants making a big difference.

I would thank the Durham County Council regeneration officers for their good work.
