WHEN Cassius Clay first met Henry Cooper in the boxing ring he not only cruelly exposed Cooper’s boxing limitations, but cruelly jabbed away at a cut above Cooper’s left eye until the wound bled so profusely that the referee had to stop the fight.

I would like to know when the referee is going to stop the Government jabbing away at people on low incomes as if they were the only way out of the country’s deficit problem?

The change in the working tax credit system is further evidence of the Government’s obsession with people at the bottom end of the income scale.

Working tax credits were previously given to people who worked 16 part-time hours. Now the agreement is that to qualify for a Government income top up you have to work 24 hours.

I know some excellent ways of bringing some money in. MPs like Liam Fox, David Laws and Chris Huhne who are forced to resign a Government position because of some impropriety should give the equivalent of a year’s wages to people on low incomes, local small businesses and enterprises.

At the end of every tax year, I would fine the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer £1 for every person out of work. That would soon bring the unemployment figures down.

John Phelan, Crook.

People are getting what they voted for. I have no sympathy. They will continue to vote for much of the same in the future as they have not realised that they are the sheeple on the farm and the farmer is pulling the strings.
