Justice

I SOMETIMES watch the Traffic Cops series on television and am amazed at the patience displayed by the officers and even more so by the paltry sentences given by courts.

Sentencing often in no way reflects the seriousness of the offence. The police must feel a deep sense of frustration when the results of their dangerous job are so lightly valued.

When, as nearly always happens, a plea of not guilty is entered and the defendant is subsequently found guilty, surely this should result in an additional charge of perjury with attendant costs and penalties?
