NEWCASTLE Airport is a wellrespected facility having announced a further £3.5m investment (Echo, Feb 13).

Would it not be a good idea for the owners of Newcastle airport to takeover Teesside and implement the same successful strategy?

We need to take the initiative in the North-East instead of being told what to do and lagging behind by those who know nothing. Newcastle, Teesside and Leeds-Bradford airports could market worldwide.

We have the opportunity to stand out from the crowd and do something we can be proud of, just like shipbuilding on the Tyne, train manufacturing in Shildon, Darlington and Teesside, mining, steel and the chemical industry.

Instead of getting burnt in the fire let’s be the phoenix and rise above adversity.
