I WISH to highlight the continued neglect of horses in County Durham. The matter seems to be getting worse and not a thing is done about it.
Recently, my heartbroken friend told me of an incident involving a mare. This poor horse was noticed by a lady walking her dog to be distressed and unable to get up due to being weak from starvation.
The animal was destroyed but lay in the field for a few days before being collected during which time a wild animal dined on its carcass.
The mare left a bewildered foal behind, also in a starved state, with several other emaciated horses and foals in the same field. After being abandoned with no food, one day a horrid straw bale appears with another.
This may look as though they are being fed but they cannot eat it.
These lovely horses are desperate for help and this has been happening for a long time now but still the RSPCA keeps a low profile regardless of the public phone calls.
Where is the justice for our majestic equine friends before another bites the dust?
