MORE should be done by football’s premier league to support struggling local clubs like the Quakers.
All over the country smaller clubs are struggling to survive, whilst the premier league teams shovel cash at their players with abandon.
Rather than constantly poaching footballers from overseas we should be nurturing home grown talent, keeping local clubs alive to ensure that players have somewhere to develop their skills.
Members of Darlington Supporters United are trying to raise £250,000. To put this into perspective, the premier league will make £1bn this year through television rights.
Football clubs are not isolated entities and teams at all levels must work together to ensure that struggling clubs can carry on. This would be true sportsmanship.
