I FOUND the letters by J Phelan and J Tague (HAS, Jan 30) very interesting, but since the Conservative Party instigated the report which caused the closure of the railways and both Conservative and Labour Parties supported the railway closures, the whole argument is pointless.

Our country is in a mess, the blame for which rests with many and can only be solved by working together.

Given that unless you’re part of the solution you’re part of the problem, would J Phelan, J Gasston and others explain how playing these pointless political point scoring games will help anyone?

As far as I can see, all it achieves is to bring out the worst in people and widen existing divisions.
