RE Peter Mullen’s article about the European Union (Echo, July 13). Few people know that the key architects of the Brussels EU were recruited from the same technocrats who had already designed a plan in 1939 for a post-war Europe under control of the Nazi/IG-Farben cartel.
Official documents from the US Congress and the Nuremberg war crime tribunals clearly show a planned world conquest by corporate interests.
As your columnist correctly pointed out, the EU is a “largely unelected and undemocratic empire of corrupt officialdom”.
That makes the EU – by definition – a dictatorship. Power no longer resides with the people. The only vote people have is for the 754 Euro MPs who have no right to independent lawmaking. The executive and the legislative are appointed.
The EU employs 54,000 bureaucrats who rule over 500 million people in 27 countries – one for nearly every 10,000 people. A sobering thought, indeed.
What is happening in the Brussels EU has little to do with Europe for the people, by the people. A quick Google on Walter Hallstein, the first EU President (1958-67), reveals some disturbing facts about his Nazi background.
It is, however, never too late for the truth to come out.
Peter Mullen asks some serious questions that should no longer be ignored.
Ben Andriessen, Staindrop, Co Durham.
COLUMNIST Peter Mullen shows his ignorance of Britain’s historical relationship with the EU and, more seriously, the English language (Echo, July 13).
He regards the British people as in some way trapped in a relationship with the EU which they neither chose nor desire and which is totalitarian. He is wrong on all counts.
Edward Heath, a Tory PM who had been elected on a pro-EU platform, signed us into Europe.
Later, we were offered a referendum on that decision which we endorsed. Since then, General Elections have offered the opportunity to disengage from the EU. All were rejected.
Every election offers a chance to support the UK Independence Party, which is committed to leaving the EU. It receives negligible support.
We can leave the EU at any time. This is not “totalitarian” at all. Your columnist does not know the meaning of the word.
Totalitarianism implies the worship and fear of an undisputed authority; it is fed to children, implies abject subjection and commands obedience under threat of grave punishment. It demands belief in the authority’s capacity to perform miracles and trucks no argument or alternative. Yes, true totalitarianism – Christianity. I trust Peter Mullen will campaign against it.
