UNFORTUNATELY, PR Davies missed an important point in his excellent letter asking what MPs do in London to justify a second home or vast travel expenses (HAS, March 16).

It is that our MPs don’t want us to know what they don’t do on our behalf, or want us to know how they can milk the system and then claim parliamentary privilege when brought to book as they feel they are above the common man and should not have to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune in a regular court of law.

It still has not become clear to them that the wise words of former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger ring so true as never before : “Ninety per cent of politicians give the other ten per cent a bad reputation.”M Hawkins, Langley Park, Durham.
