My motives

11:54am Monday 8th February 2010

I RESPECTFULLY suggest that P Ainsley (HAS, Jan 28) checks his facts before making spurious remarks condemning me. My reason for becoming a local politician was because I am proud of Willington and most of its residents and felt I could achieve more as a councillor for their mutual benefit.

The salt bin he suggests has been sited outside the rear of my home merely to enable me to fulfil my many public engagements has been in situ since 2003 when I requested it following a near accident one icy morning when a car skidded and nearly hit a group of children walking to the nearby Parkside Sports College and primary school.

I thank the many residents who have contacted me with their support since Mr Ainsley’s letter appeared.

Should he also wish to contribute to the wellbeing of Willington citizens I cordially invite him along to Willington Community Action – details of meetings are available on 01388-742000.

On a lighter note, thanks to readers of The Northern Echo for their continued support of the Legs 4 Lyndon campaign headed by myself. The amount raised for this, the Chyrelle Addams Breast Cancer Appeal and other local charities will be announced in May when my term of office ends.

Councillor Brian L Myers, Chairman, Durham County Council.
