Michael Jackson

WHAT a first-class article by Peter Mullen (Echo, July 7) regarding the hoo-ha caused by the passing of Michael Jackson.

Personally, I always considered his performances as being grotesque, what with his white features and idiotic jerky movements. His very appearance on the TV screen was enough to increase my blood pressure by a few degrees.

Unlike Mr Mullen, who watched a 15-minute “news”

item about the “star”, my limit would be about 90 seconds.I would like to echo Mr Mullen’s two-word summing up of the whole affair: Bah, humbug.

Bill Callen, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

We should use his life story in schools for child abuse awareness and anti drugs campaigns.
If someone like Jackson has to make out of court settlements for his actions with all the top lawyers in the world on his side,we can prove to the kids nobody has to suffer in silence.

The absurd sycophancy surrounding the "celebrity" culture in this country is stomach churning. We seem to be turning into a nation of "chav" morons encouraged by "chav" TV like GMTV etc. When Jackson died they were asking viewers to share their emotions to help others cope with the grief. One female presenter said she was worried about her 3 or 4 year old son as she was uncertain how he would cope. Dear God how did we win two world wars?
