RE GN Bull’s letter (HAS, July 6) regarding inconsiderate drivers using headlights during daylight.
I agree it is most annoying if headlights are on full beam during daylight hours and it can cause problems. On the other hand, many Swedish cars – Volvo, Saab, etc – have daylight running lights similar to dipped headlights, but which are designed not to dazzle and cannot be switched off.
The concept behind this brilliant idea is that in the event of an accident and vehicles involved ending up in a field or ditch (off any road) and which normally couldn’t be seen, then with the lights permanently switched on they can be seen from a much greater distance by nightfall if not discovered beforehand.
