TWO items in last Thursday’s paper (Echo, July 2) could have been printed side-by-side – your Keep the Region Flying campaign story and the Hear All Sides letter about Darlington Labour MP Alan Milburn’s record.

It is sad that the potential benefits of expanding Durham Tees Valley Airport seem to have been forgotten and the limited ability of ministers to understand the economic impact is another example of lack of interest in this part of England.

It is proving increasingly regrettable that Darlington does not have a full-time MP, or even a part-time MP who actually lives in his own constituency and who could make some sort of attempt to influence and openly support matters to the benefit of his constituency and surrounding area.

An MP who lived in Darlington could then place some value on maintaining local flights.
