Elton concert

RE your correspondent's letter about security and organisation of the Elton John concert at Darlington Arena (HAS, July 10).

It is obvious this person hasn't attended a large music concert with all its organisation, logistics and construction.

Having worked in security and stewarding for the past eight years, I have had the privilege of working at Wembley Stadium on turnstiles and stewarding concerts and sporting events with upwards of 60,000 people attending. These events are gargantuan to prepare and organise.

My nephew was stewarding the Elton show and said it went smoothly with access to stadium well catered for, all security measures in place and only small problems to report.

Many people did stand up to dance, but I believe this is called enjoying yourself.

If your correspondent finds this annoying maybe they should attend a more low-key and sedate event, such as Elkie Brooks at Darlington Civic Theatre, and they would be less troubled.

Instead of complaining and criticising, stay away from future shows so the majority can enjoy large open air concerts at our leisure as we do appreciate minor problems can be overcome.

P Hutchinson, Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham.
