I WRITE in response to letters complaining about people standing, dancing and swarming to the front during the Elton John concert at Darlington Arena.

Sir Elton John, at approximately 60 years old, had the energy and commitment to perform live (as part of a gruelling tour) in front of 17,000 fans for more than two hours. At one point he even jumped on his stool with a foot on his piano.

Should his fans not acknowledge and reciprocate this commitment by dancing, singing, cheering and generally acknowledging their enjoyment and enthusiasm?

I've waited years to see Elton live. He was fantastic and, yes, I did stand up in my seat on the pitch. I did dance and sing and would do so again.

For me, the organisation and security were brilliant - just how a concert should be. Can't wait for more acts to follow.

To those who have been complaining stay at home, sit in your armchair and listen to a CD.

L Godfrey, Darlington.

It has been decided that no more concerts can be held at Darlington Arena.
It is because of a small minority of idiots were dancing on chairs and some even left their seats and danced in aisles.
We do not get this from football fans, and certainly do not expect this from middle aged music fans.
Therefore no more concerts will be held purely on health and safety issues.

If that had happened at a football match we would be banned.
It is OK all these coffin dodgers enjoying themselves, however the last thing we need is groups of oldies dancing on chairs, then falling off and injuring themselves.
Please think of your actions before doing them otherwise you may find that in the future there will be no more concerts purely on Health and Safety issues.

It's pop/rock concert for christ sake!! You should be stood up enjoying yourself, dancing, singing and cheering at the top of your lungs.

Seated areas are okay for indoor events like opera or the theatre, but this it's an concert at an outdoor venue. Chairs should be banned!!

LOL Darlington what a bunch or boring old farts, spot on with the reply at the top, Elton is an amazing performer it is so disrespectful for people to sit on their seats, the rush to the front of the stage happens at every Elton concert and is a planned event, security know about it.
