WHAT an excellent letter from the person in Howden-le-Wear pointing out the sorry state this Tory government has brought our country to (HAS, May 15).

I am equally amazed that anyone other than the rich can be conned into voting for a party which only stands for the privileged; one can only conclude that any ordinary working person voting Conservative (or the further rightwing Ukip) isn’t shuffling with a full pack.

I am reminded of Warren Buffett, the fourth richest person in the world, who said: “There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”

You think things can’t get any worse? Give the Tories five more years, and you’ll find out the hard way. Remember: in seven years, they’ve added more to the national debt than all previous Labour administrations put together.

And under them, the North-East always suffers.
