A FEW months ago, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council announced a good year for tourism with 2.91m visitors in the year.

Divide that by 365 days and it works out at more than 7,900 visitors per day. That’s three times the typical daily attendance at Redcar Racecourse, every day, come sun, rain, wind or hail.

Surprisingly, I have not noticed the car parks overflowing or queues at the town’s eateries.

You reported on Saturday that Cool Running’s proposed snow sport centre expects to draw 2.25m visitors to Middlesbrough’s Riverside area each year (Echo, May 13). That’s 6,164 per day, every day, 365 days of the year.

Are there really that many snowboarding enthusiasts in the area every day? I begin to wonder why no one asks where they will park or enjoy their après-ski refreshments, or are we expected to accept what can only be fake news of the operator’s hoped-for success.
