THERE are reports that the fishing stock of haddock is depleted and may soon disappear from the fishmongers’ slab.

The same will soon be true for red herrings if Sunday nights’ episode of “Vera” was anything to go by.

Was it the fiancé (actually groom), her sister, the parents with a grievance following an accident or the drunk who ran the boat trips?

Actually by that time there was only one major character not under suspicion and sure enough it was her wot done it.

Halfway through every episode, Brenda Blethyn (Vera) sits down in the office and says: “Where are we?”

I’m surprised she doesn’t say “Where am I?”

I often feel like that myself while watching.
