IN response to ‘Tree Planting’ (HAS, Feb 8). We are sorry to hear about Mr O’Brien’s concerns regarding Clarence Wood.

The site offered to us back in 2012 was a reclaimed colliery site with no significant ground flora that was heavily overgrazed by horses.

We are confident that the trees planted here in partnership with Durham County Council will transform the area into a diverse and thriving habitat.

The new wood adjoins areas of existing woodland, and includes open areas in the form of wide rides, glades and a pond, all of which will provide for wildlife as the wood grows.

Creating this wood has opened up around 170 acres of green space for local people to enjoy and we will continue to manage it so it can be enjoyed by future generations.
