I AM an 82-year-old pensioner who has just received a letter from the tax office telling me my tax is going up.

On seeing the amount I am currently paying, I can quite understand how we can afford to pay for the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, including food, housing etc., send billions to countries that do not need it, and provide a free health service for anyone in the world who can get here, even airlifting them in if they can’t make it on their own.

What I can’t understand is why we never have enough cash to look after people less fortunate than me.

Surely there’s nothing wrong with the system? It really is a puzzle.

A Telford, Darlington.
