KEN LOACH is a fine film director who thoroughly deserved his BAFTA for the film I, Daniel Blake.
He then used the BAFTA platform to make a political comment on the state of the nation as he saw it and specifically the Conservative Government. He has the right to free speech and so making his view clear is fair enough.
What I despair of though, and we see it increasingly from people with extreme political views, is the language that Loach used which was later predictably supported by Labour politicians including Andy Burnham. He described the Government as displaying “callous brutality” towards the British people and refugees who are being denied entrance to our country.
I equate callous brutality with the Syrian people being bombed by their own government or the atrocities carried out by Isis, killing people for no reason.
Loach knows full well the power of language and should be ashamed, though he won’t be, for using such inappropriate language.
He also said that the “British people” are with him. Well I am working class, and proud of it, but I don’t agree with Loach.
