WHY do certain English people in Britain get delight in using Americanisms?
On two occasions last week I overheard a school teacher saying to the class: “Guys, pay attention”. Her class consisted of all girls.
The other occasion was in Durham where a mature lady was addressing her lady friends as “guys”.
Do these people not know the difference between male and female?
I would like to draw your attention to one of your columnists, Julia Breen. In her column on Thursday January 12, she wrote: “Being so very British sucks sometimes”. Whatever does that phrase mean?
If we are not careful other sayings such as “goddamn” and “mother f....r” will become more frequent.
