ON Saturday, September 10, The Northern Echo brought us up to date with the high-profile case of alleged cruelty to sheep against three halal slaughter men at Bowood abattoir, near Thirsk.

The case is hanging by a thread due to the time it has taken to get to court.

I believe the authorities are dragging the proceedings out for as long as possible in a vain attempt to make the public lose interest. I have news for them, we won’t.

If justice is not done in this case think of the primitive barbaric practice of thousands of conscious, fearful, helpless animals having their throats sliced and drowning in their own blood, then listen to your conscience. Do something positive now and tackle the Food Standards Agency and your MP on the subject.

How Britain can allow such an in-humane method of killing animals in this country is unbelievable, religious or otherwise.

But all is not lost. Judge Lower has adjourned the case until November 3 to allow the prosecution time to consider an appeal.
