READING The Northern Echo (June 16) story about Lord Heseltine’s Teesside revival plan being “just recycled proposals” one has to agree with Labour MP Tom Blenkinsop’s take on another Lord Heseltine report, which looks like a rerun.
It looks very good on paper, but resources seem very scarce, if non-existent.
Recently, I switched over to the BBC Parliament Channel and watched the House of Commons debate on the Tees Valley initiative.
Northern Powerhouse minister James Wharton seemed to say similar things to Lord Heseltine in his replies to Mr Blenkinsop’s concerns.
There was no commitment on resources or a timescale.
The only commitments are for development agencies and elected mayors. That’s short change for an area that has not long lost its steelmaking plants.
