IT is with great sadness and a deal of anger that I have read that England’s 31 man squad of players and coaches did not attend the post-Rugby World Cup tournament awards dinner.
This was our competition, held in England and we snubbed this prestigious event to a man held at Battersea Evolution.
RFU chairman Bill Beaumont presented an award and said nothing. He never even thanked everyone who made it such a great success (other than England’s early demise).
The RFU president, Jason Leonard, did offer some thanks he but lacked conviction, by all accounts.
The competition took a major downturn when England were eliminated in the group stages but sadly our manners also went out of the window. I am a saddened ex-player and an ex-club president who always appreciates effort.
