DAVID CAMERON has said that he will not serve a full second term as Prime Minister. One wonders what his next career will be – I believe he has a possible future as a paperback writer. The only question is what genre he would decide to use as a vehicle for his work.

He could, of course, write a romantic story based on this plot line: posh boy meets and falls in love with former East German women and conducts a long distance romance.

He could, of course, go down the thriller route in the James Bond style: posh bloke tries to save everyone from a serious breakdown in national security pitted against a suspicious population.

His nemesis is a badly-dressed former radical who after a lifetime of obscurity has emerged to change the world, whether we like it or not. Plenty of spies not a great deal of action but endless intrigue and back stabbing to write about, but not very new or modern.

However, I think his best bet would be in fantasy as evidently demonstrated in his letter to Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, as the chances of any fundamental changes ever coming from it are a total fantasy.

It is far-fetched but it may appeal to a small niche market of Europhiles.
