MIKE Amos' feature on Shildon (Echo, Nov 10) makes sad reading indeed, as if he was describing a Dickensian scene from a 2015 viewpoint.
Personally, I have always found Shildon to be a friendly place and its people welcoming, caring and open-hearted.
I cannot imagine that the Shildon folk will not continue to fight for the recovery of their town; the very fact of the youth delegation to the House of Commons to raise concerns there is rather encouraging...but don’t let it stop with that.
How about inviting Mike Amos in a year’s time to show him what well-intended residents can accomplish in a town like Shildon?
