I REFER to the article by Stuart Arnold about the supply of electrical power to the nation (Echo, Nov 11). I believe Redcar could be the solution.
The answers are simple, but it needs political will and a “can do” attitude.
How?
1.Immediately build the largest solar power farm possible at Redcar. Such a development will provide carbon-free electricity and by its very presence, will show that the sun does shine on Redcar.
2.Build a combined gas turbine power generating station, providing at least five per cent of the national requirement using North Sea gas (if available), imported gas (because it is cheap) or gas from North-East coal field.
3.Build a gas storage plant at Redcar, so that we are not dependant on the vagaries of gas supply/demand.
The unions, the politicians and the commercial organisations should go for it. This is a crisis situation and action must be taken.
