WHILE watching Ronnie Barker on the TV in Open All Hours, I was reminded of a shopkeeper 60 years ago in the village where I was born.
He wore a brown coat and flat cap, had a cigarette hanging from his mouth and a drip on the end of his nose. Hygiene was not a priority in those days.
His real name was Billy Starling , but I am sure he was the real Arkwright.
