RECENTLY there have been further closures of steel production facilities across the UK.

I am very concerned about the prospects for our own local steel facilities, especially when you see the energy policy of this and previous governments which are pricing our core industries out of business.

I, like many, fear the future of the remaining capability on Teesside and am shocked at the silence from our MPs on the subject.

Let’s not forget that during the recent General Election this area returned Labour MPs - but to what purpose?

Since their return all they have been doing is spending all their time trying to get their chosen candidate into the leadership slot and having a very good holiday.

Now their holiday is over they continue to play politics to the detriment of the industries and the people who rely on them for their income.

The writing is on the wall for all to see. So why are they not fighting for the protection and sustainability of the industries that need cheaper energy costs?

Do the redundancy notices have to be sent out before they take action and get involved?

During the election they all laid it on thick that they would fight for the people and the area. Sadly, as is the norm for politicians, I have seen and heard precious little talk and even less action since polling finished.

We deserve better from our very well paid members of parliament – they were returned to work for all in this area and not spend their time trying to back the winning horse in the leadership race.
