ONE of your correspondents writes about blackberry and tatie picking week (HAS, Aug 21).
Some 65 years ago, when I was 13, I went to Bede Grammar School in Sunderland. Our masters all wore gowns and one excellent English master, in his mid-forties, must have had a wife who could not darn his socks.
Little wags like me espied a tatie that couldn’t be picked but should have been darned.
