I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with Allan Ryan (HAS, Aug 21). What is the point of electing the Labour Party to government if nothing changes?

Jeremy Corbyn speaks with conviction because he believes in what he is saying. He is quietly charismatic and not worried by the media. He is, in fact, a breath of fresh air in a world full of spin, lies and posturing. He is also a capable and experienced politician.

He may not be a messiah (although his initials are JC and he does appear to have a halo in the Middlesbrough picture (Echo, Aug 19)), but he's the nearest chance we've had of any real change in a very long time.

If there are those within the Labour Party who can't support him as leader, I say let them leave – there are many more who will join the party if it is returned to its original purpose of supporting the working people of this country in a more equal society.
