HAS readers will probably remember that I campaigned against the cheap substance called slurry seal for the treatment of residential footpaths.
When I was a councillor I used most of my member’s budget to treat paths, using tarmac, which is much more expensive but has a much longer life.
I have for the past few years called for the main path which leads from Ox Close School along Mayfields, Spennymoor, to be re-surfaced with tarmac.
I know this much-used path is wider than average and would be costly.
Two sections have been covered with tarmac because of erosion so I thought it would have sensible to complete the remainder.
There is a small grassed section near the Ox Close entrance which is V-shaped to be added to the re-surfacing work. I have just walked along Bransdale and this path is badly eroded too.
Both of these paths have been marked out for slurry seal treatment. I question whether slurry seal is suitable.
Ben Ord, Spennymoor.
