FURTHER to The Northern Echo article ‘Homes petition too late, criticises councillor’ (July 20), local Ormesby councillors were criticised for a late petition on the Swan’s Corner site, on the boundary edge of Redcar and Cleveland and Middlesbrough via a cabinet member.
It is fair to say Ormesby councillors have always objected to housing on this site and other sites in Ormesby over many years.
It may now be time to look at a smaller development on Swan’s Corner.
When, as the former council leader, I attended a local community group meeting I was surprised that locals’ views were not anti a small housing development on the site as long as it included a much-needed play area.
Of course, such a small housing development could also include low-cost affordable housing which may encourage our young ones to stay in the Redcar and Cleveland and Middlesbrough areas.
George Dunning, Ormesby, former leader Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
