I thought Ralph Musgrave's letter (HAS, June 18) was a very fair and accurate characterisation of the BBC's grovelling sycophancy towards Islam.

As regards the disparaging remarks of G Bulmer, I would not be remotely concerned about them if I were Mr Musgrave. Let us remember from whom precisely these remarks come: a self-confessed former communist who spent some time behind the Iron Curtain during the heyday of the system and is clearly not the least bit ashamed of having done so.

Anyone who finds nothing at all wrong with having been an active proponent of communism - a system that murdered, tortured and enslaved more people than any other in history - but regularly trots the fact out as though it were something to be proud of, must be deficient in something fundamental, and their comments on the BBC, Islam or any other subject should be judged accordingly.
