I’M SURE after reading The Northern Echo front page (June 20), “Steel strike off”, many associated with the steel industry’s pension scheme past and present will be relieved on several fronts.
Most will be happy that no damaging strike will take place and that the British Steel pension scheme looks to be continuing.
The company will no doubt realise how important the workforce view their pension scheme, as being prepared to strike is really their last resort. Therefore, thanks go to the unions, management and ACAS for reaching an agreement for the staff to vote upon.
One hopes all can put this behind them as they move forward continuing to produce world-class steel products with a world-class workforce.
George Dunning, former local Teesside steel worker, Ormesby
