THE Northern Echo’s whimsical headline article, ‘Over to EU’, (Echo, May 28) concerned David Cameron’s visits to European leaders.

Learning that the EU membership referendum may be as early as next year was rather worrying. The No campaign, aside from Ukip, has yet to form.

The No campaign will be opposed by most of the political establishment, which has prospered within the EU, and multinational industry spokesmen, like Carlos Ghosn, the boss of Nissan, who would have the temporary inconvenience of waiting while the UK negotiates a new trade deal. We must fight the lies and any biased media.

It has taken Ukip’s influence to get the whole idea of EU reform on the agenda in the first place and it took the Referendum Party’s timely presence to save us from the euro.

Aside from this, the influence of the British people of all persuasions has become so weak that it has taken a generation for our rulers to be aware how many of our talented young people are forced into rubbish jobs, can’t buy a house and are not having children.

We need our democracy back, not a few concessions from EU President Jean Claude Juncker.
