DURHAM County planners' recommendation that the ambitious Eleven Arches plan should be rejected saddens, but does not surprise, me.
Durham County Council has never shown much interest in the regeneration of Bishop Auckland.
However, officers do not have the last word.
Now is the time for local councillors to stand up for the future of the town and surrounding communities.
Economic regeneration sometimes requires difficult choices. We elect local councillors to make such choices and we should hold them accountable for the decisions they make.
Neil Stonehouse, former leader Wear Valley District Council, Coundon
