REGARDING CT Riley's recent letter about the Human Rights Act (HAS, May 18). The correspondent and his usual misrepresentation of human rights and the lie that the Tories or anyone else in this country want to scrap our human rights is only making himself out to be an arrogant individual.
He spouts on that if the United Kingdom doesn't care about the fundamental rights of its own people, why should despots? Such an insult only highlights his own prejudice against the many in this country and especially the English.
The European Court of Human Rights is a mishmash of abuse against our own freedoms and rights and it is for the people of the UK to define their own destiny - not for those who are taking our laws for a ride time after time.
As for the likes of other parts of the UK who believe they are getting a raw deal, especially from the English, then going their own way is an obvious option.
J Young, Wolsingham.
