AS an owner-occupier I think every householder should have the right to buy.
To achieve it we need an adequate housing stock and decent wages.
To subsidise tenants of social housing so they can better afford the houses they live in is the wrong use of resources.
Margaret Thatcher introduced the right to buy council houses, but the proceeds did not go to fund further house building to rent to those who could not afford to buy.
It was but one example how she began to strip local councils of their powers In housing the need is for a vast house building programme so more people can have the chance to be householders.
Greater house ownership will come with workers receiving much better pay.
This should be the priorities of any party claiming to be the party of working people and David Cameron would not pass this reality test.
